Course Objectives Molecular biological methods are widely used for diagnosis and follow-up in medical laboratories. The aim of this course is to learn the working principles of molecular biological methods used in medical laboratories.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Describe working principles in molecular biology laboratories
  • Explain DNA and RNA isolation methods
  • Describe agarose gel electrophoresis
  • Explain methods of polymerase chain reaction
  • Classify restriction enzyme applications and DNA sequencing methods
  • Classify Blotting Methods
Course Description This course includes introduction to the general tools and materials used in molecular biology laboratory, working rules in molecular biology laboratories, isolation and amplification of DNA and RNA from blood and tissues, visualization and interpretation of amplified products in agarose gel electrophoresis, types of polymerase chain reaction, blotting, RFLP, strip test analysis, microarray and DNA sequencing methods.
